The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) in collaboration with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta and the World Health Organization, is organizing a workshop on Influenza for Laboratory Scientists, Epidemiologists and Veterinarians from African countries.

The five-day workshop at the NMIMR, Legon, will focus on recent Avian Influenza outbreaks in Africa, review sample collection and shipment, protocols for influenza virus detection and global platforms for influenza data sharing. It will introduce tools for pandemic risk assessment and emphasize the One Health Approach for rapid response for pandemic influenza. Expected outcomes of the workshop include reinforcement of rapid response and control measures for avian influenza for a better understanding of the risk assessment process for pandemic influenza and improved networking on influenza surveillance in the African Region.

The conference will be attended by 60 participants including Laboratory Scientists, Epidemiologists and Veterinarians from 20 African countries .
