NMIMR Receives a Sanitizing Tunnel

Gardenia Medicals a medical equipment and supply companies has donated a sanitizing tunnel to the Institute. The tunnel is an automated device and has been certified by the Ghana Standard Authority.  The device also known as the M240-5 sanitizer tunnel  contains a mixture of water, chlorine and 75% alcohol. This tunnel will help disinfect staff and visitors who frequents the Noguchi Advance Research Laboratories of the Institute. Mr. Alejandro Pons the CEO and Ms. Patience Yeboah, Technical Manager of the company presented the gift to the University.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof.  Ebenezer Oduro Owusu who received the tunnel on behalf of the University expressed his appreciation to the company. He noted that the device was made in Ghana and was made possible by research and scientists. Prof. Oduro added that “science must be taken very seriously because without research there can never be a development in this nation.” He ended by saying that if you give science the opportunity, we can make this nation very innovative.

Ms. Patience Yeboah mentioned that the reason for the provision of the sanitizing tunnel by the company is to support the COVID-19 fight by helping protect the frontline workers and staff of NMIMR seeing the lead role being played by the Institute.

Also present at the short ceremony was the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Rev. Prof. Patrick F. Ayeh-Kumi, the Director of the institute, Prof. Abraham K. Anang, the head of  the Department of Virology,  Prof. Ampofo and the Institute Administrator, Mr. Theodore Ahuno.

 

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), set up in 1979 as a semi autonomous institute of the University, is the leading biomedical research facility in Ghana.
