Monitoring and Evaluation of Solar Panel Farm

The Institute and the School of Engineering Sciences, UG, Legon has started monitoring the performance of the solar panels at NMIMR. The monitoring includes monthly recording of the kilowatt hour excess electricity pumped into UG by the solar panels using a net meter installed by Electricity Company of Ghana.

To evaluate the current state of each solar panel, the School of Engineering Sciences and CLUE Inc., a Japanese Company will employ the use of drones equipped with infrared sensor to study the surface of the solar panels by flying over panel. This will help us identify damages and micro cracks on the solar panel that are not visible to the naked eye but affects the conversion efficiency of the panels.

A small ceremony will be held at the institute to Initiate the project to monitor the solar panels.

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), set up in 1979 as a semi autonomous institute of the University, is the leading biomedical research facility in Ghana.
